I’m doing a live web chat at 12.15pm on www.thisissouthwales.co.uk discussing the UK government’s plans to monitor people’s activities on social networking sites. It should be an interesting discussion…
Busy day again today. There’s a protest on cuts to Further Education outside the Senedd today, and I’m hoping to go and meet those from Gorseinon College who will be attending as it is widely believed that Gorseinon College will have to make cuts of £800,000 to its budget. I went to meet the Unison reps at the College on Friday. I have a lot of sympathy with them as I don’t think that the situation has been handled particularly well. If colleges are being asked to develop new courses via the ProAct scheme by working with businesses during the recession to develop new skills, I find it hard to square this with the cuts that FE Colleges are now facing. It is worrying that Union reps told me that they only found out about this 2 weeks ago, when College Principles allegedly knew about this well in advance. At the end of the day, we need to ensure that staff are respected, their jobs are retained, and that students receive the education they deserve.
There is a cross party group on eating disorders meeting at the National Assembly tonight. It clashes with the new cross party group on Latin America unfortunately! I hope that people will attend as we will be discussing our response to the consultation on the provision of specialist services in Wales, as well as introducing the work of Beat Cymru. It starts at 6pm for any of you who are interested in attending.
I’m off now to support Dr Dai Lloyd AM’s new group on muscular dystrophy at the Assembly. I havent really mentioned it much, but I did quite a lot of campaigning on this issue growing up, as my childhood friend from Heolgerrig had muscular dystrophy, and sadly died a few years ago. We organised bring and buy sales, jumble sales- you name it to raise money for the charity, and its an issue close to my heart.

just to say i caught the tail end of the webchat just as mt form arrived for pm registration in school, it stimulated an interestind debate, one girl added a comment at the end, as dave stacey said it is certainly worthwhile doing again, i could certainly organise something if i had a bit more notice
Tony- thanks for your comments. I will make sure that if I do it again, that proper notice will be given.
Hope that you enjoyed what you saw of the debate regardless.
