Although I have voted Plaid in recent elections and would do so in a General election, I would not have voted SNP in Glenrothes.

Why? Because the Labour win has been worth it to wipe the smug grins off all the faces of the Tories who wanted a nationalist win for their own unionist agenda.

ponty boy- no I do not want people to vote Tory. I think you know that. The electoral system for Westminster needs to change, so that it is not a case of a two party race.

Ah yes, the electorate have been duped! The perennial cry of the loser. I suppose the electorate were duped in the USA last week? Oh no! you cry, that's different....

Poor gullible electorate, who either vote they way we think they should vote, or they have been deceived in some unspeakable way. What an arrogant attitude.

Let's just accept that voting Nationalist is a luxury that many people choose not to exercise when international politics and economics are the main issue.

Oh, goody, Gary. I'm looking forward to it.

The nationalist should do better when the recession fully takes hold, look at Germany in the 1930s.

So now we know where Plaid gets all of its great ideas.

You may be annoyed that the SNP didn’t win Bethan, but you shouldn’t be surprised. The voters of Glenrothies recognized that the economic downturn was not going to be reversed by electing another SNP MP, whereas strengthening Gordon Brown’s position could have a positive outcome. People are obviously less interested (than you at least) in how we got into this pickle, than how we get out of the jar.

The loser habitually blames their failure on a dirty and/or negative campaign, just as the SNP did in Glenrothies, but as we have seen in the US election, the negative campaign of McCain didn’t sway the voters, who, in their case, saw that the best interests of the country were served by change.

You seem to think that every voter is a political strategist just like you. They aren't. It’s not that the voters think that “devolved nations would not have the skills to cope with a financial crisis should we be independent”, it’s far more simple. The voters think that the short term best interests of Scotland were served by continuity, not change, so that’s what they voted for.

Wrong Bethan the turnout was down but Labours share of the vote was up.

You are correct however to raise the subject of the US. The electorate over their have decided that during a recession there is no room for the petty the introverted politics of the Republicans. The same has happened in Scotland matters like which flag you fly or the whether the bloke who bought the house next door is English do not seem as important when you could lose your job.

Serious times call for serious people Bethan not flag waving Nationalists.
